The nominees are chosen by a small number of people involved in the music industry in the United Kingdom and Ireland. In recent years, artists such as Franz Ferdinand, Antony & the Johnsons, Pulp, Klaxons, Arctic Monkeys, Talvin Singh or Portishead took the prize for home.
When receiving the award, Guy Garvey, singer of the group, referred to the fact as "the best thing that has happened in" and dedicated the prize to Brian Glancy, a friend of the band who died recently and that motivated the title of the album that "celebrates his life," revealed. According to the musician "any person who has made music in Manchester know who he was." At the ceremony, Guy Garvey said that "The trophy will be presented to Mandy Glancy, the mother of Brian."
